About Cheese

It is actually a derivative of milk, which is accumulated by coagulation process. This process starts with the introduction of enzymes and bacteria into milk. There are thousands of varieties available in the market and it has been used in different culinary purposes. Its taste may vary according to the type. Most of the varieties are milky, salty, and creamy.

History

How and when this process started is still unknown. But there are evidences that clear the use of cheese up to 8 to 10000 years ago. The process of making cheese is mentioned in various Egyptian murals and Greek mythology and it documents the whole process of cheese making.

It has gained popularity during the Roman Empire. The process of cheese making has eventually spread its wings to the Middle East and most parts of Europe. There were different types of cheeses produced by Julius Caesar’s time.  

Initially, cheese making was grown in Europe and the Middle East. The cheese was a great way to preserve milk. Skimming off the milk to make butter and using rest of milk for making cheese is the most common method. There are different types of cheese produced, from exotic ones to common ones like mozzarella, cheddar, and parmesan. Few other varieties are Monterey Jack, Feta, Asiago, babybel, Provolone, Gouda, etc.
